A fire feature is a popular accessory for an outdoor space for numerous reasons. The first reason (and perhaps the most well-known benefit,) is the warmth that a fire feature provides. Whether you’re looking to entertain guests late into the night or are eager to have company over before the warm weather arrives, a fire feature makes both purposes plausible by offering warmth.

In addition to providing heat, fire features engage guests and encourage them to gather around. This boosts the socialization of any event and the natural flicker from the flame enhances the ambiance which makes an environment for guests that is welcoming and relaxing.

While the fire feature can create a welcoming and relaxing environment, it can also seamlessly blend into the surroundings. Luckily, incorporating a fire feature is incredibly simple and with all of the customization opportunities, you can easily find a fire feature that will blend seamlessly with your landscape.

For those not interested in entertaining guests, having a fire feature also adds value to the home. While the value is dependent on the completion of the outdoor space in addition to a fire pit, the U.S. Real Estate News suggests that having a solo fire feature still offers a significant boost to the resale value of a home. So in addition to giving you an opportunity to stay out later, you’ll also see a monetary value from it if you’re in the market to sell your home.

Ultimately adding a fire pit to your outdoor space is beneficial because the benefits extend beyond the homeowner. Guests also get the advantages of a fire pit when being entertained, and it offers potentially higher resale values. So a fire feature is something that can influence the experience of everyone that uses it-which is why they have been popular and will continue to be popular in the future.

Protecting your home.

PLEASE NOTE: There are still a few manufacturers of floor protectors who do not submit their product for safety labeling. Look for the safety label. Floor Protectors tested and approved to UL 1618-2009 are clearly marked with the manufacturer name, model, and will be designated as Type 1 Ember Protection or Type 2 Thermal Protection. In addition, tested Type 2 Thermal Protectors will specify the "R" value of that particular model. Older floor protectors that were labeled to the old UL Subject 1618 prior to 2009 were not tested for thermal protection. Should an unthinkable catastrophic accident occur, your insurance company will be looking for a safety label.

Type 1 Ember Protection

Many modern hearth appliances do not require thermal protection (heat resistance) on the floor. These products installations guidelines may specify a non-combustible material or ember protection.

Type 2 Thermal Protection

Stove installation guides will use the new "Type 2 Thermal Protection" designation exclusively and express the thermal resistance requirement as “R-value.” AJ Type 2 floor protectors have a minimum R value of R = 1.1. R values up to R = 10 are available. Check with your hearth retailer to ensure you choose a floor protector that meets or exceeds the thermal protection specified in the appliance installation guide.
